If a laptop, phone or tablet you use for work is lost or stolen, report it straight away, even if you think it might turn up. A quick call lets us protect your account and your organisation's data before anyone can misuse it.
Call synfo on 1300 079 636 as soon as you notice the device is missing. This applies to personal phones too, if they have work email, Teams or Microsoft Authenticator on them.
Call us first
When you call, have this information ready if you can:
- What kind of device it is (laptop, phone, tablet) and whether it's a work or personal device.
- When and where you last had it.
- Whether it was locked, and whether it has a PIN, password or fingerprint/face unlock.
- Which work apps or accounts were on it.
Then follow up with an email to support@synfo.com.au with P1 in the subject, so there's a written record.
What synfo can do
Depending on how your device is managed, we may be able to:
- Sign you out of Microsoft 365 on all devices, so the lost device loses access to email, Teams and files.
- Reset your password and MFA, so the device can't be used to approve sign-ins.
- Remotely lock the device, remove work data from it, or wipe it completely.
What's possible varies between devices. On a personal phone that's set up for work, it's often possible to remove only the work data and leave your personal photos and apps alone. We'll talk you through the options.
What you should do
- Change your Microsoft 365 password from a device you trust, if we haven't already done it with you. See reset your Microsoft 365 password.
- If it was your phone, contact your mobile carrier to block the SIM, so no one can receive your text messages or calls.
- Change passwords for other accounts that were signed in on the device, especially banking and any password manager.
- If it was stolen, report it to the police and note the report reference number. Your insurer may need it too.
- Use your phone's own tracking (Find My on Apple devices, Find My Device on Android) to locate, lock or erase it, if you have it set up.
If it turns up again
Let us know before you use it. If we've signed it out or wiped it, we'll help you get it set up again safely. If your Authenticator was on a lost phone, see move Microsoft Authenticator to a new phone.
Still stuck?
If you're unsure whether a device counts, call 1300 079 636 anyway. It's always better to check.
