Penetration testing

Find the gap before someone else does.

Independent, engineer-led penetration testing of your network, applications and people. Enterprise-grade testing available on top of our Enhanced Security Suite, or as a standalone engagement for any Australian business. You get a written report, a prioritised remediation list, and a re-test once you've closed the gaps.

Independent testing, not marking our own homework
Written report in plain English
Free re-test after remediation
Aligned to Essential Eight & ISO 27001
Independent
Testing carried out separately from whoever manages your day-to-day IT.
Written
report
Plain-English findings ranked by real business risk, not a raw scanner export.
Re-test
Included once priority findings are remediated, to confirm the gaps are closed.
Essential
Eight
Findings mapped against Essential Eight and ISO 27001 where relevant.
Why bother testing

Because attackers don't wait for your next audit cycle.

A vulnerability scan tells you what might be wrong. A penetration test tells you what an attacker could actually do with it. Insurers, boards and auditors increasingly expect the second, not just the first. Pair this with our Compliance & Security Auditing service for the broader ISO 27001 and Essential Eight programme this evidence feeds into.

Scans and pen tests are not the same thing.

Automated scanners are useful and fast, but they can't tell you whether a finding is actually exploitable, or what an attacker could reach once they're in. A skilled tester answers that question directly.

Compliance and insurance increasingly demand proof.

Cyber insurance renewals, ISO 27001 audits and board reporting are moving past "we scan regularly" toward evidence that your controls actually hold up under a real attempt to break in.

The gap you don't know about is the one that gets used.

Attackers aren't working to your audit calendar. Independent testing surfaces the exploitable gap in your environment before it turns up in an incident report instead.

What's tested

Engagements scoped to what actually matters to you.

Every engagement starts with agreed scope and rules of engagement: what's in bounds, what's out of bounds, and when testing happens. Testing is carried out by experienced security engineers, broadly aligned with recognised industry testing frameworks such as the OWASP Testing Guide for web application work.

External network testing

Everything your business exposes to the internet: firewalls, remote access, published services and email security, tested the way an outside attacker would approach them.

Internal network testing

What happens once a foothold exists inside your network, whether from a compromised laptop or a malicious insider. Lateral movement, privilege escalation and access to sensitive systems all assessed.

Web application & API testing

Customer portals, internal web apps and APIs tested for the vulnerability classes that most commonly lead to data exposure or account compromise.

Social engineering & phishing

Controlled, agreed simulations that test whether your people, not just your technology, would spot and report a real attempt to gain access.

Wireless network testing

Corporate Wi-Fi assessed for weak authentication, rogue access points and segmentation failures that could let a nearby attacker onto your network without ever touching a cable.

Cloud configuration review

Microsoft 365 and cloud infrastructure configuration checked against common misconfiguration patterns that leave data or identity exposed without a single line of code being exploited.

What every engagement includes

The same standard, regardless of scope or size.

FAQ

Questions we get asked about penetration testing.

How is a penetration test different from a vulnerability scan?
A vulnerability scan is an automated tool listing known weaknesses. A penetration test is a skilled engineer actively attempting to exploit those weaknesses, chain them together and show what an attacker could actually reach. Scans find candidates; pen tests prove impact.
Will testing disrupt our systems or staff?
Scope and rules of engagement are agreed with you before testing starts, including what's in bounds, what's out of bounds, and testing windows. Destructive testing is never carried out without explicit written agreement.
Do you test web applications as well as networks?
Yes. Engagements can cover external and internal network infrastructure, web applications and APIs, wireless networks, and social engineering such as phishing simulations, scoped individually or combined.
What do we actually get at the end of an engagement?
A written report with an executive summary for leadership, technical detail for your IT team, findings ranked by real-world business risk, and clear remediation guidance. A free re-test is included once you've closed the priority findings.
How does this fit with your Compliance & Security Auditing service?
Penetration testing is the technical proof point: it shows whether your controls actually hold up under attack. Our Compliance & Security Auditing service is the broader programme that maps those results against frameworks like ISO 27001 and Essential Eight and tracks remediation over time.
