A plan for the day the technology isn't the problem.

Backups and failover keep your systems alive. Business continuity planning keeps the business alive: the people, the process, the decisions and the communications around whatever's actually broken. We build, test and maintain the business-level plan that sits above your technical DR stack.

The business case

Why this belongs above the technical DR stack.

A working failover platform still fails as a response if nobody knows the plan around it: who decides to invoke it, who tells staff and customers, and what "back to normal" actually means. Boards, insurers and auditors increasingly ask for the plan itself, not just evidence that the technology works.

A DR system that works can still fail as a response.

Technology recovering on schedule means little if decision-makers don't know who's authorised to invoke the plan, or staff don't know where to look for instructions. The gap is almost always the plan, not the platform.

Insurers and boards want more than "we have backups".

Cyber insurance renewals and audit committees increasingly ask for a documented, tested continuity plan as a condition, not a courtesy. "We have backups" is no longer an adequate answer on its own.

Recovery is a business decision, not just a technical one.

Which systems come back first, what gets communicated externally, and when to declare an incident over are calls for leadership, not engineers. A tested plan means those calls are made in minutes, not debated mid-crisis.

Where this fits

The plan sits above the technical backbone.

This service is deliberately separate from the appliances and cloud platforms that actually perform a technical failover. If you don't yet have that foundation in place, our Cloud Backup & DR service is the technical backbone these plans are built on: image-based backup, five-minute RPO options and instant virtualisation. A BCP without a tested technical platform underneath it is a document with nothing to execute against; a technical DR platform without a BCP around it is a system nobody knows how to invoke.

What we build and test

From plan on paper to plan under pressure.

Each element below is a distinct deliverable, built with your leadership team and kept current through regular review, not written once and left to age.

BCP documentation & plan development

A structured business continuity plan built with your leadership team: roles, decision rights, escalation paths and recovery priorities, written in plain English and kept where people can actually find it.

Tabletop exercises

Facilitated scenario walkthroughs with your team, ransomware, site loss, key supplier failure, that test the plan against a realistic incident and surface the gaps before a real one does.

RTO/RPO governance

Recovery targets set at the business-process level, order runs, payroll, customer service, not just server-by-server, so priorities during an incident match what actually keeps the business trading.

Crisis communication plans

Pre-approved messaging templates and escalation trees for staff, customers, suppliers and, where relevant, media, so communication happens quickly and consistently instead of being improvised under pressure.

Failover testing coordination

We coordinate business-side testing alongside the technical failover tests run against your Cloud Backup & DR platform, so the plan and the technology are validated together, not on separate, disconnected schedules.

Plan maintenance & review

Plans reviewed and refreshed on a set cadence and after any material change to your business, so the document in the drawer still matches the business it's meant to protect.

FAQ

Common questions on BCP & continuity planning.

How is this different from your Cloud Backup & DR service?
Cloud Backup & DR is the technical backbone: the systems and appliances that actually take the backup and fail workloads over. Disaster Recovery & BCP is the business-level plan that sits above it: who does what, in what order, who talks to customers and staff, and how the business keeps operating while the technical recovery happens.
What actually happens in a tabletop exercise?
A facilitated walkthrough of a realistic incident scenario with your leadership and operational teams in the room. We test the plan against the scenario in real time, find the gaps, decisions that stall, roles that are unclear, communications that don't get sent, and update the plan with what we learn.
How often should we test the plan?
On a cadence matched to your risk profile and any regulatory or insurance obligations you carry. We recommend it as a standing item in your business continuity program rather than a one-off exercise, and set the right cadence with you during onboarding.
Who needs to be involved on our side?
Whoever would actually be making decisions during a real incident: typically an executive sponsor, operations leadership, IT, and whoever owns customer and staff communications. The plan is only as good as the people who'll use it.
Does this replace our technical DR platform?
No, it governs it. A tested failover platform and a tested business continuity plan are both required for genuine resilience. If you don't yet have appliance-based or cloud-to-cloud backup and DR in place, see Cloud Backup & DR, which we treat as the technical foundation this plan sits on top of.
