The paperwork behind your security, actually maintained.

An Information Security Management System is the governance layer that turns scattered security controls into a defensible, auditable program: policies, risk registers, control ownership and evidence trails. We build it, maintain it and keep it current, so it's ready the day an auditor, insurer or customer asks to see it.

The business case

Why this belongs at the governance level.

Certification is a point-in-time snapshot of an ongoing program. Insurers, customers and boards increasingly want to see the program itself, not just a certificate on a wall, which means the policies, risk register and control ownership behind it need active management, not a folder that gets dusted off once a year.

A policy nobody maintains is a liability, not a control.

Outdated policies create a false sense of coverage and, in an audit or incident, a documented gap between what was written and what actually happens. Active management closes that gap.

Certification is a snapshot of an ongoing program.

Passing an audit once says nothing about whether the program holds up the following quarter. An ISMS that's actively managed is what keeps the certification, and the posture behind it, current between audits.

Insurers and customers ask for the paperwork now.

Cyber insurance renewals and enterprise customer security questionnaires increasingly ask for evidence of an active ISMS, not just a statement of intent. Ready evidence shortens that process considerably.

What's managed

The governance layer, kept current.

An ISMS is only as good as its maintenance. Each of the following is actively managed on an ongoing basis, not delivered once as a static document set.

Policy library management

The full set of information security policies your framework requires, kept current, version-controlled and reviewed on a regular cycle rather than written once and left to age.

Risk register & treatment plans

Identified risks tracked with owners, treatment plans and status, so the register reflects the business as it actually is today, not as it was when the program started.

Control ownership & accountability

Every control mapped to a named accountable owner, inside your business, so responsibility for each part of the ISMS is explicit rather than assumed.

Internal audit scheduling & tracking

Internal reviews scheduled and tracked to completion, feeding into and cross-referenced with our standalone Compliance & Security Auditing service where an independent assessment is also in place.

Statement of Applicability maintenance

The document that maps which controls apply to your business and why, kept aligned to your actual environment as it changes, rather than frozen at the point of first certification.

Certification & surveillance audit support

Preparation and evidence assembly ahead of certification and surveillance audits run by an accredited external body, so the process is a formality, not a scramble.

FAQ

Common questions on Managed ISMS.

What's the difference between Managed ISMS and Compliance & Security Auditing?
Managed ISMS is the ongoing management layer: policies, risk registers and control ownership maintained continuously. Compliance & Security Auditing is where we test and independently assess your posture against a framework, including the ISMS itself. Most Enterprise-tier clients run both together: the ISMS is what's managed day to day, the audit is how it's independently verified.
Do you get us certified to ISO 27001?
We build and manage the ISMS that a certification body assesses against, and support you through the certification process, but the certification decision itself is made by an accredited external certification body, not by synfo.
What if we already have some policies in place?
That's common. We review what already exists, keep what's genuinely working, and bring the rest up to a consistent standard rather than starting from a blank page.
Who owns the ISMS day-to-day, us or synfo?
Formal accountability for information security sits with your business, as it should. synfo manages the ISMS on your behalf, maintaining documentation, running reviews and keeping evidence current, while your leadership retains ownership and sign-off.
How does Essential 8 fit into an ISO 27001-aligned ISMS?
Essential 8 is a set of specific technical mitigation strategies; ISO 27001 is a broader management framework for how security is governed. We map Essential 8 controls into the ISMS as one of the technical control sets it manages, alongside broader policy, risk and governance requirements. See Compliance & Security Auditing for how we assess against both.
