DMARC & phishing protection

Stop impersonation before it reaches the inbox.

Layered inbound email defence stops phishing, malicious attachments and malicious links before your people ever see them. DMARC, SPF and DKIM alignment stops criminals sending email that claims to be from your domain in the first place. Most Australian businesses have neither properly configured, which leaves both directions of the mail flow exposed.

The business case

Email is still the front door attackers use.

Business email compromise and invoice fraud cost Australian organisations real money every year, and the pattern is almost always the same: a convincing email, a payment redirected, discovered too late. The reverse problem is just as damaging. If your domain isn't properly authenticated, criminals can send phishing email that appears to come from you, landing in your customers' and suppliers' inboxes with your name attached. That damages trust, deliverability and, increasingly, your standing against Essential Eight and cyber insurance expectations covered in our compliance & security auditing work. Fixing both directions at once is the only complete answer.

Inbound is where the damage starts.

A single convincing phishing email that reaches the wrong inbox can lead to credential theft, ransomware deployment or a fraudulent payment. Layered filtering, sandboxing and link rewriting stop the overwhelming majority before a human ever has to make the right call under pressure.

Outbound is where your name gets weaponised.

Without DMARC alignment, nothing stops a criminal registering a look-alike sending path and emailing your customers as "you". The damage lands on your reputation, not theirs, and it's often discovered only after a customer calls to ask if you really sent that invoice.

Boards and insurers are starting to ask.

Email hardening is increasingly a named expectation in cyber insurance questionnaires and security frameworks. "We use Microsoft 365" is no longer treated as a sufficient answer; a documented DMARC policy and inbound filtering strategy is.

What's included

Defence in both directions, managed end-to-end.

We design, implement and continuously manage the technical controls, then connect what they find into the rest of your security stack rather than leaving it as a standalone dashboard nobody checks.

DMARC, SPF & DKIM alignment

Every legitimate sending source behind your domain identified and authorised, DKIM signing configured, SPF records tightened, and a DMARC policy staged safely from monitor through to full enforcement.

Attachment sandboxing

Attachments detonated in an isolated environment before delivery, catching malicious payloads that signature-based scanning alone misses.

Link rewriting & time-of-click checks

Links rewritten and re-checked at the moment they're clicked, not just at delivery, so a page that turns malicious after arriving in the inbox is still caught.

Business email compromise detection

Impersonation and lookalike-domain detection tuned to your executive and finance team names, the accounts targeted most often in invoice fraud and payment-redirection attempts.

Quarantine workflows & reporting

A managed quarantine with clear release workflows, plus regular reporting on what was blocked, what was released and how DMARC alignment is trending over time.

Report-phishing feedback loop

A one-click "report phishing" button feeds real staff-reported email straight into our review queue, and the patterns we see shape the next round of Security Awareness Training and Phishing Simulation campaigns.

Correlated into the SOC

Email threat signals, quarantine activity and DMARC alignment failures all feed into the Security Operations Centre, so an email-borne attack is triaged alongside every other signal in your environment, not in isolation.

Frequently asked

Common questions on email defence and DMARC.

What is DMARC and why does it matter even if we've never been spoofed?
DMARC tells receiving mail servers what to do with email that claims to be from your domain but fails SPF and DKIM checks. Without it, anyone can send email that appears to come from your business, and most receiving servers will simply deliver it. DMARC closes that gap regardless of whether you've been targeted before; it's protecting your name, not just your inbox.
What's the difference between quarantine and reject enforcement policy?
Quarantine sends failing messages to spam or junk; reject refuses them outright. Reject is the stronger control, but jumping straight there risks silently dropping legitimate mail from a sender you haven't yet authorised. We move clients through monitor, then quarantine, then reject in stages, watching alignment reports at each step so the policy tightens without breaking real mail flow.
Will this block legitimate email from getting through?
Properly staged, no. The risk sits with rushing straight to a reject policy before every legitimate sending source, including marketing platforms, invoicing tools and CRM systems, is identified and authorised. Our rollout starts in monitor mode specifically to surface every sender using your domain before any enforcement policy can affect deliverability.
Doesn't Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace already filter phishing?
Native filtering catches known bad senders and obvious spam, but sophisticated business email compromise and look-alike domain attacks are built specifically to slip past baseline filtering. DMARC alignment, layered inbound filtering, attachment sandboxing and link rewriting sit on top of what the platform already does, closing the gap between baseline filtering and a deliberately targeted attack.
How does this connect to phishing simulation and staff awareness training?
Technical controls and user behaviour work together. Email defence and DMARC alignment stop the majority of malicious mail before it lands; the messages that still get through are the ones your people need to recognise. We pair this service with Security Awareness Training and Phishing Simulation so your team is tested against the same techniques we're actively filtering for.
